Why Church Planting Matters — and Why TCW is Committed to It

At the heart of the gospel is a God who goes. From the Garden to Golgotha, from Pentecost to the present day, our missionary God has always been seeking and saving the lost. Jesus didn’t just sit in one place and call people to come to Him—He went, He preached, He healed, He died, and He rose again so that “repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations” (Luke 24:47).

In His Great Commission, Jesus calls the Church to carry this same outward, kingdom-expanding mission into every city, neighborhood, and culture. The book of Acts shows us how this happens: through the planting of local churches—communities of grace where the Word is preached, the sacraments are administered, and disciples are made. Biblical theology teaches us that the local church is not an optional extra but the primary means by which God spreads His glory, truth, and love in the world. Church planting isn’t just a strategy—it’s the Spirit-led expression of Christ’s continuing mission.

That’s why Trinity Church Wayzata (TCW) is joyfully committed to planting many new churches throughout the Twin Cities over the next 20 years. We don’t do this because we want a brand to grow, but because we want the Body of Christ to grow. We long to see every neighborhood saturated with the gospel, every generation reached, and every person given the opportunity to belong to a vibrant, Christ-centered community. By God’s grace, and for His glory, we will continue to plant churches that proclaim good news, cultivate real community, and bear lasting fruit.

Our next church plant: Brooklyn Park, MN. Info coming in July.
